Automobile Registration
Residents of Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax are required to pay a personal property tax on motor vehicles. Additionally, residents of Fairfax City must purchase a decal for each vehicle.. Decals must be purchased within 60 days of moving into the City or buying a car. Although Fairfax County does not require a decal, all vehicles purchased or moved into the county must be registered within 60 days of purchase or move in date. The City of Fairfax tax rate is set annually by the City Council. Fairfax County Department of Tax Administration will determine the taxable value of your car from a recognized pricing guide.
